Hormone Replacement is simply a matter of replacing and restoring the hormones that are naturally made in your body but which have diminished over time or due to certain circumstances. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy helps to treat the negative effects of aging. Generally, men and women begin to produce less hormones over time. Although this decline primarily occurs as we age, there are many things that can contribute to hormonal declines and imbalances, including stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, obesity, and some medical disorders.
We specialize in a comprehensive Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy program, which restores declining or imbalanced hormones including thyroid, to normal functioning levels. Your hormones will be individually prescribed based on your individual lab results, symptomology and medical history.
Symptoms of declining and/or imbalanced hormones can include:
- Insomnia
- Night sweats
- Weight gain
- Low libido
- Wrinkling or sagging skin
- Mental fogginess
- Memory issues
- Loss of physical stamina
- Hair loss
- Muscle atrophy
- Erectile dysfunction
- Low energy levels
- Depression
- Unexplained grief
- Anxiety, agitation and/or irritability
Many of our patients have been placed on hormone replacement therapy in the past with no significant improvement. Others have tested “normal” on their labs and were told that they are fine, while still being symptomatic. Dr. Berutti has worked with bioidentical hormones for many years and understands which lab tests to run and, just as importantly, how to interpret them correctly. Once you are started on the correct hormone replacement protocol you will begin to see some of the benefits listed below.
Benefits of Hormone Replacement include:
- Increased libido
- Greatly improved sleep
- Improved mood
- Boosted energy and motivation
- Reduced anxiety and depression symptoms
- Improve joint pain
- Regain skin elasticity and muscle tone
- Decrease/eliminate hot flashes
- Alleviate night sweats
- Improve vaginal dryness and overall vaginal health
- Eliminate mood swings
- Increased muscle tone/muscle mass for men
- Better stamina for men
There are different types of application methods such as pills, creams, patches, troches, injections and gels. A prescription is required for BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy) and most are compounded at a pharmacy that specializes in compounding so that your treatment is customized just for you. Dr. Berutti will discuss available options which best suit your individual needs and budget.

Starting as a New Patient
When you start as a new patient at Dynamic Life Health Center, you will initially need two different appointments, approximately three weeks apart. Your initial appointments at Dynamic Life Health Center will be an hour and a half in length. At the first appointment, Dr. Berutti will go over your reasons for seeking help, your medical history, your health goals, and all of your symptoms. This appointment will also serve to answer any additional questions you may have. After that first appointment, Dr. Berutti will lay out your individualized lab orders so that you can have all applicable testing done. Testing usually involves both serum labs and saliva testing. Saliva testing will include hormones and/or cortisol.
The lab panel is quite comprehensive and may include testing your sex hormones, a complete thyroid panel, checking for diabetes, A1C, blood sugar, cholesterol, liver and kidney function, micro-nutrient testing, and/or inflammation levels, among others. This testing is tailored specifically for you and is done from a functional medicine standpoint, looking for underlying imbalances or conditions that could be causing your symptoms and to ensure long term wellness.
At your second appointment, Dr. Berutti will be able to explain any hormonal imbalances that you may have along with other deficiencies or abnormalities noted. She will prescribe the appropriate hormone replacement treatment protocol at that time, and will discuss other measures to improve your overall health and wellness.
After prescribing your custom treatment protocol, we will want to follow up with you every three months during the first year to check your levels and continue to adjust and balance everything as ideally as possible for you. Once you are established and balanced after the first year, we will want to see you bi-annually.

COVID-19 Protocols
Until now, we have been screening patients in our front office for any signs of COVID, and to confirm that patients do not have a fever. Please note that because of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, we are taking extra precautions to keep all of our patients and staff safe, while still providing continuation of services. If you are planning a visit to the office for your appointment, we kindly ask that you do the following:
- Please call us from your vehicle when you arrive at (817) 912-1600, and press Option 2 to let us know that you have arrived. Additionally, please be advised that our phones roll to the answering service from 12:00-1:00 pm.
- Please REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE until your Medical Assistant comes out to your vehicle. She will take your temperature and screen you for any signs of illness. Once you are cleared, she will escort you into the clinic for your appointment.
- Because COVID-19 symptoms can vary, we will unfortunately not be able to allow you into the clinic for your appointment if you are exhibiting allergy or cold symptoms. We ask that if you do have those symptoms, that you call us prior to your appointment, and we will proceed with a phone appointment versus an in-clinic appointment. This way, you do not have to miss your appointment all together. Please note that Dr. Berutti and Melanie Martin, PA-C, will both give you the same undivided attention over the phone as they would if you were in the office.
- If you have knowingly been exposed to COVID-19, please do not come to the office for your appointment. Just give us a call, and we can conduct your appointment over the telephone.
As COVID cases continue to rise, we strongly encourage you to change any future in-clinic appointments to phone consultations. We do understand that some patients prefer an in-clinic appointment, and both Dr. Berutti and Melanie are willing to accommodate you, provided that you meet the criteria above.
We understand that the pandemic has made daily life much more difficult for all of you. Our hearts go out to all of our patients who have been directly or indirectly affected by COVID-19.
Insurance Coverage
We can provide you with the paperwork that contains the diagnostic and CPT codes that you can submit for possible reimbursement with your insurance company.
We do encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to your first visit to ask them what benefits they give for seeing an out of network provider and for comprehensive lab-work. If for some reason they will not cover lab fees, we can offer our patients a substantial self-pay discount and we will work with you to keep costs within your budget.
You are also able to use Health Saving Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
What is Functional Medicine?
Dr. Lyn Berutti uses a functional medicine approach in treating her patients. To better explain exactly what that is, let’s first examine the conventional medicine model of practice. Conventional medicine is appropriate in many situations and works very well for things like acute infections, trauma, acute diseases, and life-threatening and serious illness. Physicians will use treatments such as surgeries, antibiotics, drugs, etc., to treat their patients and this can be very beneficial and life-saving in many circumstances.
However, in many cases, this is not the approach needed to restore the patient to health and vitality. Probably the biggest difference between the conventional medicine model and the functional model is that functional medicine asks why the problem exists in the first place and works to seek the root causes of diseases and dysfunction, rather than just prescribing medications for its symptoms.
Functional medicine recognizes that your symptom isn’t necessarily the same thing as your diagnosis. So many people are living with chronic illnesses, hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems, and autoimmune diseases that their quality of life is grossly disrupted. They are not getting answers from the conventional medical community. Functional medicine is a drastically different model of practice which includes:
- Spending more time with their patients (often an hour or more).
- Quality discussions regarding histories, symptoms, lifestyle, stressors, diet, exercise, etc.
- Taking the time to hear your concerns and answer your questions.
- COMPREHENSIVE and science-based lab work.
- Taking the whole body, symptoms and history into account to get a whole picture.
- Working to find the the underlying or root causes of symptoms.
- Focusing on prevention and cures through nutrition, diet, exercise, hormone balance, and medications as needed.
Correcting hormonal imbalances with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is a specialty of ours. Imbalances in the endocrine systems can wreak havoc on the way people feel and can have cascading effects on other health issues. In functional medicine, possible underlying issues are explored and addressed when found. When the underlying problem is correctly diagnosed and treated, the symptoms disappear.
Here at our office, Dr. Berutti will sit down and establish meaningful dialogue with you regarding your history and current state of health. She will run some comprehensive labs which will provide answers about the overall state of your health. She will go over those with you in detail and establish treatment protocol as needed to help to get your body back in balance hormonally, nutritionally, and holistically. Help, hope, and health are what we strive to offer our patients!

Bioidentical Hormone Safety
There can be confusion about the differences between synthetic hormone replacement and bioidentical hormone replacement. To make matters worse, some providers use the term “natural” to describe whatever it is they’re prescribing and its meaning is vague.
Dr. Berutti prescribes hormones that are all bioidentical. This means that the compound that they’re made from are able to match what the body produces naturally. A common synthetic hormone that is often prescribed by doctors is an estrogen made from the urine of pregnant mares and, while it can be deemed “natural”, its molecular compound in no way matches that of the human body.
Some providers only want to prescribe synthetic hormones because those have been patented and are sold by the pharmaceutical companies. However, while these synthetics may help with some symptoms, they often come with unwanted side effects, and large, long-term studies have shown that they can have significant risks.
